What is self-harm?

Self Harm is non-accidental behaviour that causes, or has the potential to cause harm to yourself. Self-harm is a very complex and personal way of coping with distressing and unbearable feelings and experiences. Self-harm is often used as a way to survive distress. It can take many forms and does not always cause injury, for example, over exercising or over working.

How does support work?

We can offer you compassionate and non-judgemental support if you’re living with self-harm. We’ll explore how self-harm is affecting you and help you to reduce its impact. We won’t just focus on the self-harm. We’ll explore with you your overall wellbeing and the things that are important to you in your life.

Many of our team members have our own lived experience of living with self-harm, and so we may have an understanding of what you might be going through.

How do I access support?

If you’re aged 16 and over and live in Aberdeen, you can access our free support by contacting us directly. This is called self-referral. Just email us today to ask about accessing support.

We also accept referrals on your behalf like for example from your GP, social worker and other voluntary organisations.

Where will support happen?

The support we offer will be wherever in your local community that you feel most comfortable. Or, if you prefer, support can be online via zoom. The support we offer is flexible, so just tell us what works best for you.
