We are pleased to share two poems by Colette, a supporter of Penumbra Mental Health. In 2023, Colette discovered the joy of creative writing. She hopes that her work will encourage and inspire people on their mental health journey.

BALANCE

It is not good to be busy but also not good to have all day doing nothing

Good to have time on your own but not good to be on your own the whole time

It is all about balance

Balance of rest and activity

Of being active and passive

Listening to music and quiet times

Balance of the day – not to fill every minute but also not to watch every minute go slowly by with nothing to do

It is so hard to get balance

I was off balance with my job as I was stressed with the hours

but now I find myself having every hour to myself

I want to see people but scared to see people

Balance of emotions

Of being happy & sad

Of feeling upbeat or downhearted

Feeling motivated for action

or lacking energy and inspiration to do anything

Everything is all about Balance

Spending time doing an activity but not overdoing it

Spending time on a variety of activities – balance your time

Balance is everything

Of sleep and being awake

Of staying in or going out

Of doing things in the house or out in the garden

Of spending time on your own or else seeing people

Balance, Balance, Balance,

Balance is everything!

POETRY IS A RELEASE

A poem is a story

From deep in our heart

Of how we are feeling

The truth we impart

It is hidden in the words

We are too fragile to say

A creative story

Of our life day to day

So take pen to paper

And start to write

And release your feelings

Deep in your heart

No one will judge you

It is only a poem

You will remain hidden

In the words and the rhyme

Let it flow from you

And feel the release

Your heart will feel lighter

And your mind will feel peace

Thank you Colette for sharing your poetry.
