Robbie and Glenn's fundraising marathon

Last year I was going through a very difficult time in life, where I felt like my world had collapsed and my life had come to a complete halt. I had lost someone very close to me and I was struggling in a way I’d never experienced before. A friend had sent me a link that had information about help offered by Penumbra Mental Health.

I think the same day, a lovely lady called Gillian phoned me and we spoke briefly about how they can help, which for me really was just to talk. So for months I would talk to Gillian about what was going on in my head and in my life. Gillian had been through a similar experience so I felt she really understood the huge ups and downs of the grieving process. She made me feel less alone, and was a beacon in an otherwise very dark place. It was with her support and the support of everyone around me that I’ve been able to get back on my feet and feel like myself again, and for that I will be forever grateful.

I think Glenn and I both wanted to run a marathon at some point, so we saw this as an opportunity to do it while also raising money for a good cause. We wanted to do something which would push us beyond our limits, and fundraise for Penumbra so they could continue the wonderful work they do.

If you’re thinking about doing something similar, my best advice is put yourself out there when it comes to fundraising. You’ll be amazed at the generosity of people. Some of those who donated to us we hadn’t seen or spoken to in years, so don’t be shy!

How long did our legs take to recover? We’re not sure they ever will.

Huge thanks to Robbie and Glenn for being in our community of supporters. We hope your legs have recovered!
