Self-harm is a complex way of coping with difficult emotions. If this is something you’re experiencing in your life, our national support service can offer you a safe, non-judgemental space where you can talk openly and explore how you’re feeling.
We won’t just focus on the self-harm. We’ll work with you to find out what matters to you in your life and we’ll support you to find coping strategies that work for you. Many of our team members have lived experience of living with self-harm or managing mental ill health and so they bring an understanding of what you might be experiencing.
How does it work?
If you self-harm and are seeking support, we’re here to help.
Self-Harm Network Scotland provides compassionate support, resources and information about self-harm. We also provide support and information to friends, families and professionals.
Our website is for people aged 12 and over living anywhere in Scotland. It contains lots of easy to follow resources if you’re living with self-harm. The website is also for parents and carers, and for anyone in a professional capacity who wants to understand how best to support someone who may be self-harming.
Visit the Self-Harm Network Scotland website here: Home – Self-Harm Network Scotland Penumbra (selfharmnetworkscotland.org.uk)
We’re self-referral, which means you can contact us directly to get support. We also accept referrals on your behalf.
Our Live Chat service
You can also access support from our team of Peer Practitioners and trained volunteers through a live webchat, where you can chat to one of our team between 6pm – 10pm, 7 days a week. The SHNS webchat service acts as an intervention for people who are at the point of self-harming or thinking about self-harming.
