Danni Jo's Journey: Climbing Scotland's Highest Mountain

Anybody who knows me, will know I have always had a passion for mental health, and have dedicated my academic years to striving towards a career in this field. Recently I was incredibly grateful to have accepted my first job within mental health, working for Penumbra as a Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioner – within the Distress Brief Intervention Service.

I have also recently completed my first official Munro (Cairn Gorm – 4084 ft), which fuelled my fire to keep going. I am by no means, the fittest person on earth or a major hill walker/climber, in fact I would class myself as the opposite, but what I lack in fitness, I believe I make up for in determination.

I am by no means, the fittest person on earth or a major hill walker/climber, in fact I would class myself as the opposite, but what I lack in fitness, I believe I make up for in determination.

So after my Cairn Gorm summit high, reflecting upon the realisation that many of these challenges we set ourselves, are a large proportion of mental challenges – mind over matter. So as I already was fuelled with thinking about the next challenge, and I thought, why not just go for the highest Munro there is – to tackle Ben Nevis & try raise some money for mental health while I’m at it!

Mental health affects around 1 in 4 of us in Scotland – so almost at least 1 person you know! With many experiencing depression, anxiety, PTSD, self-harm, suicidal thoughts and so on.

Lets all do our bit to raise some money and allow more people to be able to step forward and receive compassionate and supportive care that they truly deserve.

Huge thanks to DJ for climbing Ben Nevis on behalf of Penumbra and for raising over £535!
