I try to manage my voices the best way I can

My support worker has supported me to share my recovery journey and how far I have come, to try and give hope to other people whose mental health may not be so good.

When I became very ill with my mental health, I lived in Cameron Cottage for quite a long time, I think almost 2 years. Cameron cottage is supported living accommodation, and is sort of a half way house between hospital and living in your own home.

When my mental health improved well enough, I moved into my own bungalow. I love my bungalow and have it just how I want it. I manage to look after my home really well. Visitors always comment on how lovely my home is.

My recovery has meant I can live in my own home. I can manage my medication myself, and I have a lot of medication to take. I can look after myself and my home. I enjoy getting out and about, popping to the local shops and having a blether with my neighbours. I’m happy getting on the bus on my own to go shopping in the next town. And I really love getting pampered, going to the hairdressers and having my nails done.

My recovery has meant I can live in my own home.

I still hear my voices and some days they are louder than others. I try to manage my voices the best way I can, by keeping busy. Some days are better than others, but I always get through the day.

My family and support really know when I’m not feeling too good. It helps when my family and support tell me how strong I am, and how far I have come. I was really ill when I was living in Cameron Cottage, but I am a lot better now. Back then I thought I would never be able to live in my own home, but here I am.

I have a lot more hope for the future.
